Federal Advisory Committee Recommends MPA Healthcare Solutions’ Alternative Payment Model to HHS

WASHINGTON — The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) has recommended The Physician Focused Payment Model: Acute Unscheduled Care Model (AUCM) to Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Alex Azar for implementation. MPA Healthcare Solutions provided analytic support and designed the model for the American College of Emergency Physicians.

AUCM is an advanced alternative payment model that is designed to improve outcomes and reduce costs for Emergency Department (ED) patients. “MPA was honored to serve as ACEP’s analytic partner and to advance efforts to develop new payment models that improve the quality of care while lowering costs through better care coordination,” said Dr. Susan Nedza, SVP for Clinical Quality Initiatives at MPA.

Paul Kivela, MD, FACEP, the president of ACEP, said “the Acute Unscheduled Care Model is the first proposed payment model that gives emergency physicians a leading role when it comes to accountability for patient care and care coordination.”

With the PTAC’s recommendation AUCM crosses a critical threshold, as the Secretary will respond to the recommendation and may refer it to CMS for review and implementation.
